An Oklahoma native and lifelong hunter and angler, Steve graduated from Oklahoma State University with degrees in wildlife management, entomology and journalism.

He began his career as a newspaper sports and outdoor writer. Steve worked 11 years for the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation, ultimately serving as editor of the conservation magazine “Outdoor Oklahoma” and overseeing the agency’s television, radio and other communications programs. Also an accomplished photographer, Steve spent six years as executive director of the Outdoor Writers Association of America and as director and then vice president of communications for the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.

Prior to joining Blue Heron Communications in 2007, Steve directed public relations programs, led SHOT Show media services and served as spokesman for the firearm industry’s trade association, the National Shooting Sports Foundation.
